We are very pleased to present some of the first audio recordings from our new account on Soundcloud.
To start off the collection, we present some archive material a performance by an Outreach member, Labrini Gioti.
Labrini graduated from the University of Limerick with an MA in ethnomusicology, and has contributed some interesting articles to the outreach website over the years. Some of her articles at UL explored the Rembetika music of her home country, Greece, and they may be accessed through the fieldwork section of this website.
These days, she performs Rembetika music regularly. Here are a number of songs from a concert at the University of Aberdeen last year.
Many thanks to Nicholas and Labrini for allowing us to use this material.
This is a mix of folkloric and outer-regional music of Ethiopia, all 45s, records that I feel need to be heard. Less of breakbeats & wah wah and this time more of krar, claps, howling organs and trad melodies. For fans of previous mixes ‘Axum to Addis’ and ‘Addis Sheckla Explosion’.
Cape Verdian Mornas & Coladeras. An all vinyl mixtape by Quantic.
